Basquiat and Go-Go Dancing at de Young

This weekend, the de Young Museum will present an evening filled with cultural flashbacks centered on the 60′s. If you haven’t already stopped by the museum on a Friday night, then you’ve been missing out on the live music, poetry, dance, films, and lectures that takes place after the sun has set. The entire museum stays open until 8:45pm, where you can sip a cocktail, enjoy a special Friday Night dinner, or pass the time creating your own masterpiece.

On February 27th, 2009, you will encounter the French flair of Bardot A Go Go, the “longest-running Francophilic swinging sixties experience” in the world. Prepare yourself to enjoy the sounds of frat rock, soul, and of course, French pop. The night also brings a special appearance by the Girls of Go Go Mania, who will certainly inspire you to embrace a 60′s dance or two.

Additional festivities include opportunities to create wearable art with Kim Erickson (6pm – 8pm at Wilsey Court) and a film screening of Basquiat (1996), which tells the tale of the unforgettable artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (7pm at Koret Auditorium).
