Lloyd’s Lake is the reservoir that pumps water up the adjacent hill to Rainbow Falls. The water circulates by way of the JFK Drive stream. At the southwest corner, you can watch the water pour back into the lake in an attractive cascade. To overlook the water in wedded bliss, consider exploring the trail entrance from Transverse Drive that leads up the hill.
Dubbed ‘Portals of the Past,’ the lake is home to an example of early San Francisco architecture often used as a site for wedding ceremonies – the remains of Alban Nelson Towne’s Nob Hill residence. After the home was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake, the columns left standing were eventually transported to the park and installed as a memorial in 1909. The columns provide a fantastical backdrop for wedding photos.
