Archery

Once you have brought along or rented your archery targets, bows, and arrows, you may enjoy the nine target bales situated at the park. The field can be found on Fulton Street between 45th and 46th avenues.

Baseball

The most popular baseball fields that hosts an array of athletic recreation or competition at Golden Gate Park are found at the Big Rec baseball fields, located close to 7th Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard. In the west, Big Rec Graham is situated, while the eastern field presents Big Rec Nealon. Additional fields to consider for a game of baseball include Sharon Field and the smaller Stanyan Meadow arena.

Biking

With the wind running through your hair, the crispness of air soaring through your lungs, one of the best places to enjoy a bike ride in San Francisco is at the Golden Gate Park.

Boating

To enjoy the scenery and waters of Stow Lake, the northwestern side offers four-passenger rowboats and paddleboats. Both electric and pedal options are offered. The boathouse is open from 10am to 4pm and provides rentals when weather permits.

Disc Golf

Known for being a fun activity for beginners and a challenge for the more experienced, the previous course at Golden Gate Park was a temporary gathering place for those interested in exploring the sport. Since December of 2005, the current disc golf course situated at the park is now being revamped into a permanent haven by a group of dedicated San Francisco Disc Golf Club members who hold work parties during the weekends.

Fly Fishing

Both national and international casting tournaments take place at the fly casting pools located close to John F Kennedy Drive and 36th Avenue.

Golden Gate Park 9 Hole Golf Course

The west end of the park opens up to reveal a nine-hole golf course for public use. The entrance of the clubhouse is positioned close to 47th Avenue, between John F Kennedy Drive and Fulton Street.

Golden Gate Park Dog Runs

The northeast section of the park offers a place for dogs and owners to enjoy a day full of fresh air. The Stanyan Street area is located between Hayes and Fulton streets for this purpose. A small stretch of land situated at 38th Avenue and Fulton Street is known as a frequent dog-training hangout.

Golden Gate Park Volleyball

A wide-range of local and school volleyball-related events are held at Kezar Pavilion, while several fields about Golden Gate Park serve as the perfect setting for a competitive game or two. When looking for a nice place to enjoy the great outdoors and set up shop, Sharon Field is known as a rather accommodating location to enjoy volleyball games.

Handball

The handball courts can be found north of the Big Rec baseball fields. Since the courts are open every day, reservations are not necessary. If the courts are available, all you have to do is head for Middle Drive East with your own equipment, which is situated between MLK Jr. and Bowling Green drives.

Horse Riding

Over the years, horse owners, riders and students enjoyed the public access stables, which paired the allure of the Golden Gate Park's natural attraction with the beauty of four-legged creatures that have captivated the public for many years.

Horse Shoes

Individuals interested in tossing a few horseshoes must bring their own equipment to enjoy the horseshoe pits at Golden Gate Park. This entertaining opportunity is positioned off Conservatory Drive.

Model Boats

A trip to Spreckels Lake brings visitors to the Model Yacht Club House, where a collection of wind-and-motor-powered models sail about the water located opposite 36th Avenue. With weather permitting, weekend regattas highlight a rainbow of colors amidst peaceful surroundings.

Paddle Boats

Petanque

In the Bay Area, a small following of petanque players gather at Golden Gate Park to enjoy the game. Enthusiasts congregate at the court located opposite 38th Avenue. When searching for the court, you will find it situated close to the Buffalo Paddock.

Rugby

With a reputation of rough and rugged play, rugby is alive and forging full speed ahead throughout the fields of Golden Gate Park. While a handful of personal teams gather at Polo Fields to hone their skills, a handful of locations about the park allow players to practice pitching, as well as hold championship games and public events.

Soccer

Situated opposite 48th Avenue, soccer pitches are located in the Beach Chalet soccer field. To enjoy a game on the fields, reservations are required.

Team Sports

An assortment of residents, non-residents, school-age teams, professional clubs, and seniors gather at the park to compete in leagues, tournaments, and enjoy recreational exercise. For example, high schools, such as the University High School athletic department, utilize the Golden Gate Park facilities for a variety of team sporting events.

Tennis

Throughout the year, hundreds of residents, seniors, youth, and non-residents gather at Golden Gate Park to play a couple of games of tennis. During their tennis season, the University of San Francisco women’s team often dazzles on the courts when competing against schools, such as Saint Mary’s.
